This is one of the more badass action flicks that have come out in the last year, thanks to some excellent acting and brilliant visual effects. Worthington doesn't play his role very differently at all from his stints in Avatar and Terminator, but he gets the job done; Neeson, Fiennes and Mikkelsen are awesome, however. Fiennes in particular is backed up by a ridiculously awesome dark smoke/fire effect every time he appears, which really helps with the badass factor.
The movie as a whole is one big action sequence that follows the events of the original movie and bases itself loosely off greek mythology. The setting and time period are enough to make it seem very original, however, and the film never loses steam or never feels overindulgent. Basically, it's an above-average action film with a smarter than usual story.
In a sentence:
An above-average action flick that benefits from great acting, fantastic VFX and a fascinating setting. It is nothing groundbreaking, however.
